The Role of Time and Frequency in Egnos (european Geostationary Navigation Overlay System)
نویسنده
چکیده
The European Geostationary Navigation Overlay System (EGNOS) is being developed in Europe to provide GPS and GLONASS regional augmentation services to aviation, marifirne, and land users. EGNOS will provide the following services: i) GEO-based GPS-like Ranging signals to improve the availablity and continuity of GPS and GLONASS navigation services. ii) Ground Integrity Channel (GZC) to improve the integrity of GPSand GLONASS-based navigation and position determination for safefy-critical applications. And iii) Wide-Arm DiBerential corrections WAD) to improve the accuracy of GPS-SPS and GLONASS. Additionally, EGNOS will disseminate accurate time to users, synchronized to GPS, GLONASS, and UTC time scales. The paper provides an overview of EGNOS ground-segment architecture, gives requirements related to time aspects, and describes ,preliminary analysis and performances through test trials. It also covers initial results achieved in the frame of the EURlDlS program, conducted by CNES, after several months of measurements.

EGNOS the European complement to the GPS and GLONASS systems is operating navigation payloads flown on geostationary satellites. Its role is to augment the performance of the GPS and GLONASS systems by improving their service integrity and the accuracy of their measurements. These two systems were originally designed for military purposes and their services were subsequently offered to civilian...

With the growing demand for accurate and reliable worldwide differential GPS positioning, there has been a significant move towards the use of real-time GPS augmentation systems with wide area differential positioning capabilities. The US Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) and the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay system (EGNOS) are good examples of such a move. While these augmentati...

In order to access the Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) service, the end user needs to have a direct line of sight to at least one of the Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) satellites transmitting the augmentation messages. This requirement is critical for users in environments such as city canyons, valleys and fjords since high buildings and mountains in the vicinity of the end user can...
